While ticks are active all year long, warmer weather is often when the numbers of ticks surge, so be on the lookout. Ticks are arachnids that feed on the blood of mammals, birds, and reptiles.

Elongate hemlock scale is becoming a serious pest of hemlocks trees in the Greater Boston area. Native to Japan, Elongate hemlock scale (EHS) is an armored scale insect targeting eastern and Carolina hemlocks. Occasionally Fir, Spruce and Yews become secondary hosts, usually when growing adjacent to infested Hemlocks.
