Removing a tree without proper permitting can trigger stop work orders and significant penalties.

Not every removal requires a permit. Trees determined to be dead, dying, or hazardous are exempt, but the property owner must document the condition with photos and obtain authorization from the City Tree Warden before or immediately after emergency removal.
