Plant Health Care Services in Greater Boston

Protect Your Trees & Shrubs

If you live in the Greater Boston area the ornamental trees and shrubs around your home are a valuable part of the landscape. Not only do they contribute much to the properties aesthetics and feel, they hold significant financial value as well. The last thing you want is to see them decline due to preventable problems. Decline in plants is often a result of stress factors including environmental stress, drought, disease, pests, or poor soil health.

With proactive plant health care, you don’t have to wait until a problem becomes serious or it is too late to address it. An arborist or plant health care technician can monitor the landscape for early signs of trouble and implement targeted solutions as needed. The goal is to protect the plants that you’ve invested in and that define your outdoor space.

Understanding Plant Health Care

At Barrett Tree Service East, our plant health care services are intentionally adaptable to meet your property’s highly specific needs. Whether you need a customized plan for your mature Beech trees or your Boxwood hedges because you’ve already noticed signs of disease, or you want to take a proactive approach to prevent future problems, we will create a custom plan for you.

If you have a complex or large collection of plants and are ready for the next level of care our ActiveCare programs feature regular monitoring, applications, and reports by a certified arborist throughout the season. Activecare often also often incorporates a series of Organic Bio-Stimulant soil applications to improve soil health and produce healthier and more vibrant plants.

Do I Need a Plant Health Care Service?

Every landscape could benefit from an investment in plant health care. While you should not wait for your plants to decline to seek plant health care services and improve soil health, we do want to share some warning signs that your plants are already in trouble.

  • Discoloration: Changes in leaf color can indicate problems. Yellowing (chlorosis) often suggests a nutrient deficiency, while brown or black spots may indicate disease or fungal issues.

  • Wilting: Wilting leaves or stems can be a sign of dehydration or root problems. Overwatering or underwatering can both lead to wilting.

  • Stunted Growth: If a plant is not growing as expected, it may be experiencing stress. This can be caused by poor soil quality, insufficient light, or pests.

  • Leaf Drop: Premature leaf drop can occur due to various stressors, such as overwatering, underwatering, pests, or disease.

  • Curling or Distorted Leaves: Curled, twisted, or distorted leaves can be a sign of insect damage, such as aphids or spider mites, or possibly a disease.

  • Browning Leaf Edges (Leaf Scorch): This can be due to excessive sun exposure, drought, or salt build-up in the soil.

  • Mold or Mildew: The presence of white, gray, or black powdery substances on leaves or stems can indicate fungal issues, such as powdery mildew or downy mildew or the presence of pests creating honeydew.

  • Webbing: The appearance of silk-like webbing on plants can indicate a spider mite infestation.

These are just some signs that a problem could be brewing. While some solutions are cultural, such as changing up watering habits, others require treatment. It always makes sense to have an arborist or plant health care technician make the proper diagnosis.

Greater Boston Area Plant Problems
